Actually it's a 4.7 on the stars rating November 7, 2005 Reviewer:  BrianMac (Largo, FL.)  See all my reviews >

First bike was stolen while locked up, so much for expensive locks it comes inside ALWAYS!

The S-40 is a better bike than the S-25 but not because of the disc brake, that made a tacket until I adjusted it, but the bike rides better and handles better. I've put a Tamer seat stem on it and it does wonders when hitting uneven joints in sidewalks and other places. I've put a little over 1400 miles on the bike (according to the Catseye computer) inside of two months and have had no mechanical problems other than a bent front rim and Target replaced the rim and tire. This bike has been used for 95% sidewalk riding at 25 to 30 mils a day. At 1400 miles the tires look good for another 1000 miles or so. The bike is kept inside and there is no rust anywhere.

My suggestion to anyone buying this bike (or any bike for that matter) is take it to a local bike shop and have it tuned and lubed right off the bat, it's piece of mind.

I would buy this bike again in a heart beat and highly recommend it!

First thing you should always do before buying a bike from a store is “ADJUST EVERYTHING” I have seen other reviews for this bike on other sites and people always complain about chain breaks, rubbing gears, loose handle bars. Most of these problems can be avoided by getting a (unless you know how to do it yourself) tune up before you take it out for the first time. Just in case you are wondering there is a monkey in the back of the warehouse building these bikes.

Second: Remember you are getting what you’ve paid for. Do not take this bike 40mph downhill or jump off rocks higher than 4 feet. If you are looking to do this…I hope you value your life a little more than the price…

Third: It’s a good bike for light mountain biking and trail riding….I have no major issues with mine.

Fine bike for the low dough price... May 30, 2007 Reviewer:  Lil Mike "http://blog.eventmagic.com" (San Francisco)  See all my reviews >

Everyone I've talked too, some who ride bikes full time as couriers, have been impressed with the bike I got at the price i paid. The bike has multiple speeds, brakes are disc type, it even has shock absorbers. Tires are thick, it's just a solid bike overall. I have had this bike for about a month, and so far it's been reliable as a commuting and casual ride.

Nice Looking but has some Flaws Both Mens & womens versions! May 15, 2007 Reviewer:  CT "teed-off3" (Orlando, Fl United States)  See all my reviews >

This bike is nice looking and is aluminum so is lightweight which is a plus BUT if you want a bike where the handlebars raise up higher DO not buy this one! The handle bar CANNOT be raised higher so you have to ride hunched over! Also both my husband and myself (he got mens version and I got womens) had a problem with our feet hitting the front wheel when making a turn- So if you were turning left you had to make sure your right foot was twords the rear of the bike or it hit the front tire and vise-versa for turning right. Neither of us are huge or amazons or have canoe feet or anything. We are both Normal size and weight. Anyway, I returned my bike [...] and got a diamondback and love it but my husband, being we purchased his at Target, was not allowed to return the bike- [...]

A good "Starter" bike! October 15, 2006 Reviewer:  glmccready (Salisbury, MD)  See all my reviews >

I've had this bike for about 8 months. I've put about 1000 miles on it, and have been very pleased. I've had to tune it a bit, chains and cables stretch on all bikes, but have had no other problems. I'm a 190lb guy and have pushed this bike hard at times. It has handled everything without a problem. I do trails 3x a week when the weather is good, and it still rides, shifts, and stops well. The "bike guys" will tell you it is junk, but I think it is a great value for the money.

Schwinn Men's S 40 26' Bike February 6, 2006 Reviewer:  Travlr "travlr" (Lake Worth Fl)  See all my reviews >

Have owned this bike approximately one month. In that month I have averaged about 175 miles per week on it and have found it to be a very comfortable and tough bike. I use it to ride to and from work six days a week on the streets and in the dirt. I suggest taking it in for a tune up and lube before first use just for peiece of mind.

this bike for [the price] is grate. the componets are not the best but just the frame is worth it after puting all new parts on it, it's unbrakeable. parts like new forks with more travel and a new shock with a bigger strocker will help it ride like a $2000 bike. i have jumped a 25 ft dirtjump over and over again and the frame is fine. i also ride a 15 mi trail on sundays and its ruggit ride. i also ride a trail in my backyard which has jumps, lader bighes, gaps, bankings, and more. it can handel alot. so if your mean to bikes, and do not want to spend $2000 or more on a bike you should think about this one.

[...]

and have fun riding also thanks for reading

Be afraid March 7, 2008 Reviewer:  Bike Rider "Harry" (Orlando, Fl, USA)  See all my reviews >

I bought this bike some time last year and it bike is awful. I can tell me how many problems I have with this bike. I found out that the 7 speed is all outdated. You have to really hunt to find the pieces to replace since they're broken. [...] I would never buy this bike again and I hope you wouldn't as well. I love Target but I'm very surprised that they would sell this bike.

Great bike August 31, 2007 Reviewer:  Happy me "Franke F" (old tappan NJ)  See all my reviews >

This is my first day on this bike and it is great. The bike has disc brakes that would stop on a dime. This bike also looks great and it gets lots of looks to. This bike is priced very well [...]. I had a number of bikes in my life and this one is the best I had yet. I recomend this bike to anyone that needs a good bike or just wants a new one. The shocks on this bike are very good. (You can't even feel the bumps.) So if you pick this bike have fun!
